My Story

“If only there was emergency contact
information accessible in the vehicle!”

Memories of a Christmas Eve years ago left an indelible impression within me even to this day. As my son and I traveled a remote country road we witnessed a horrific head-on collision.

The accident was devastating. Quickly, we surveyed the situation to determine the extent of the accident and who required immediate care.  The driver who was at fault was uninjured but we discovered in the other car two young parents and their small baby. The baby was removed from his car seat and handed directly to me from the mangled car. The two adults appeared to suffer from traumatic injuries requiring immediate emergency intervention.

When the first responders arrived they did an initial evaluation of the infant and left him in my care. While I worked to comfort the baby, the First Responders worked diligently to save the young mother using the Jaws of Life.  I held him against my chest for well over an hour soothing him to sleep.  As a mother myself my mind quickly was consumed with worry as to who would care for this precious baby boy cradled in my arms.

When the Emergency personnel took the baby from my arms and the ambulance rushed off to the hospital, concerns of the impending trauma the baby was about to experience was heavy on my heart. No doubt, the baby would awaken to strangers as he cried out for his parents. As one can imagine the hurried efforts of the First Responders and ER doctors, to save the lives of his parents, would be tremendously chaotic and confusing for him.  My thoughts were also of the baby’s future care and if Child Protective Services would be called to care for the baby until extended family or friends were located.

Fast forward 20 years and the memory is as fresh as if it happened yesterday.   I am now a grandmother and the thought of one of my grandchildren experiencing anything like that caused me to consider what could be done to help others who may find themselves in such tragic circumstances. The solution I developed is to make emergency contact information easily accessible in the vehicle!

From this tragedy, we started to explore developing these resources and the best way to make these resources available for all vehicles…including those with young children and also those of mature drivers.  From extensive research and detailed conversations with friends and family members, these resources are created with the hope that one day every car is equipped with this invaluable and easy to access emergency contact information… Just in Case 4U!
